Welcome

  1. In Early 1985 I bought my first set of decks and a dirt cheap (pre-owned) Marantz amplifier and (would you believe) a set of 'Cinema' speakers that I purchased from a friend who dismantled an old Cinema, they were over 4-feet tall and contained three 12" speakers in each (but no tweeters) I was still classed as a "Bedroom DJ" I think they call it these days. From my first couple of successful house parties I went on to buy better equipment and was often working every Fri-Sat night having to get taxi's home with all my heavy equipment. I went on to do one or a two evenings at various venues (Theme Pubs) around West London which was great because I could play more or less whatever I wanted (and people liked it) so I went back again and again for two hours sets. From these sets I was offered more and more work and ended up having to decline work. The house parties continued right up to Feb1988. As a DJ we were under immense pressure to "deliver the goods" and play everything that was asked of us ie 50's 60's 70's 80's So when I broke away from the job I wanted to concentrate on just what I liked ie 'Soul Music' Thats not to say I didnt like dance music or any other genre that was around at that time but the next couple of years my work collection was filtered out and watered down just to contain what I liked. Back in the 2000's I started replacing my vinyl with cd's and the vinyl that wasn't available on disc I ripped and sold on or simply gave away. As a result I have now ended up with a solid collection and alot more space. I'm sharing my love for this music on my blog, so everything is up for discussion & I welcome all comments. I would also love to hear your stories of how you first started your musical journey.
